A new community space in Vancouver.
Construction of Vancouver’s Coal Harbour Phase II involves expanding the community centre and building an elementary school, daycare centre, and social housing.
In 2017, the City of Vancouver engaged Thurber to conduct a preliminary geotechnical and environmental investigation of the soil and groundwater conditions and quality at the site to inform the preliminary design. As detailed design and tendering progressed, Thurber provided ground improvement assessment, caisson design, excavation shoring, a contaminated soil management plan, and an erosion and sediment control plan.
During construction, Thurber’s geotechnical engineers oversaw the excavation and replacement of poor soils with concrete, the installation of caissons, and temporary shoring and anchoring of walls. Our environmental engineers managed the remedial excavation and off-site relocation of contaminated soils, and carried out ongoing erosion and sediment control monitoring.
