Bringing LNG to Kitimat: our work on the Coastal GasLink Pipeline

The Coastal GasLink project spans 670 kilometers.

Once in service, it will deliver natural gas from northeastern BC to the LNG Canada facility in Kitimat, BC.

Thurber's teams based out of Kamloops, Prince George, and Edmonton supported the pipeline's design and construction. Our services included:

  • Terrain and hazard assessment
  • Hazard mitigation measures to address slope instability and erosion
  • Geotechnical recommendations for unstable terrain, cut and fill slopes, and road construction
  • Material selection
  • Geotechnical design of bridge piles for the Stuart River Bridge
  • Braced excavation design for sheet piles
  • Geotechnical investigation for compressor stations

The project involved wetland protection, remote sites, and very cold temperatures.
