Overview
Thurber has an exciting opportunity for a CAD Engineering Technician to join our team in Calgary, Alberta.
Thurber is a specialized consulting firm with a focus on geotechnical engineering. Our project work includes transportation, large and small infrastructure, natural hazards, development and more. We undertake challenging assignments that can include steep terrain, deep foundations, compressible soils, landslides, contamination, or other complications.
As our CAD Technician, you will work on varied projects and develop your skills with guidance and mentorship from our senior team.
Responsibilities
- Work within the Drafting Department to prepare support to a wide range of engineering drawings, including site plans, bore hole location plans, stratigraphic cross sections
- Create accurate drawings which follow specific standards and guidelines;
- Perform design calculations, gather construction details and prepare design drawings – including MSE walls, retaining walls, berms and other earth work construction;
- Apply design principles and theories in the preparation of all drawings;
- Conform to client specifications and standards where required;
- Make required changes and revisions, as directed by the immediate supervisor; and,
- Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications and Assets
- Technical diploma, CAD certificate or equivalent with 3 to 5 years of work experience;
- Preference given to candidates with environmental and geotechnical drafting experience;
- The ability to work effectively in a team;
- Proficient with AutoCAD and Civil 3D;
- Strong verbal and written communication skills;
- Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills;
- Highly adaptable with the ability to work efficiently and effectively on multiple projects simultaneously;
- Well-developed general drafting and technical skills;
- Experience with software, such as Global Mapper, Surfer, gINT and Adobe Creative Suite considered an asset; and
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
