Overview
Thurber has an exciting opportunity for an Intermediate Geotechnical Engineer to join our team in Pickering, Ontario.
Thurber is a specialized consulting firm with a focus on geotechnical engineering. Our project work includes transportation, large and small infrastructure, natural hazards, development and more. We undertake challenging assignments that can include steep terrain, deep foundations, compressible soils, landslides, contamination, or other complications.
As our Geotechnical Engineer, you will work on varied projects and develop your skills with guidance and mentorship from our senior team.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and carry out surface and subsurface site investigations, including borehole logging, sampling of soil and rock and geological mapping;
- Coordinate and carry out field inspection of construction works and material testing of geotechnical materials;
- Prepare and write proposals and technical reports;
- Conduct geotechnical engineering analysis;
- Supervise technicians and junior engineers; and,
- Manage project schedule and budgets.
Qualifications and Assets
- Post-graduate degree in Geo-Engineering discipline such as Geotechnical Engineering, Geo-Environmental Engineering or Engineering Geology;
- Minimum 5 years of experience in Geo-engineering field in Canada;
- Eligible for registration with P.Eng or P.Geo;
- Prior experience in consulting engineering or construction is considered an asset;
- A high level of proficiency with current geotechnical software applications;
- Valid Ontario Driver’s License (G);
- Strong technical, oral and written communication skills;
- Exceptional analytical and project management skills; and,
- Ability to work independently and cooperate with a team in various environment.
