Overview
Thurber has an exciting opportunity for a Field and Lab Technician to join our team in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan for a contract term from May to October 2026, with the potential to become a full-time position.
Thurber provides geotechnical, environmental and construction materials engineering and testing services for a variety of industries across Canada. Our multidisciplinary expertise allows us to work on problems related to earth, the environment and construction materials. We solve problems in a wide variety of industries including transportation, building construction, municipal infrastructure, land development, dams and water resources, industrial development, mining, oil and gas, marine and environmental services.
Responsibilities
- Providing construction inspection and quality control/assurance testing for various infrastructure and transportation projects;
- Conducting field compaction testing of soils;
- Carrying out construction inspection for various projects;
- Carrying out field concrete and asphalt testing as per CCIL/CSA requirements;
- Conducting pile construction monitoring for driven steel and cast-in-place concrete piles;
- Carrying out laboratory testing of field materials;
- Ensuring all work conforms to CCIL, ASTM and other company and industry standards;
- Effectively communicating results and observations to clients, contractors and project engineers verbally and in written formats;
- Liaising with project engineers and client’s site representatives; and,
- Travelling to local, and remote construction sites.
Qualifications and Assets
- 0 to 3 years of relevant experience in the Civil, Geotechnical or Geological Engineering Technology field;
- Relevant post-secondary diploma;
- Class 5 driver’s license;
- Experience carrying out concrete and compaction testing is an asset;
- Experience conducting pile construction monitoring is an asset;
- Concrete Testing Certificate from CCIL/CSA is an asset;
- Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills;
- Strong computer skills (i.e. spreadsheet and word-processing);
- Proficiency with spoken and written English language is required;
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, with the ability to work out of town for extended periods, overtime, weekends and nights is required;
- Shift work may be required depending on workload and client/project needs;
- Criminal Record Check will be conducted; and,
- 3 Year Driver’s Abstract and a Claims Experience Letter will be requested upon hiring.
