Overview
Thurber has an exciting opportunity for a Soils, Aggregates, and Concrete Laboratory Technician – CCIL Certified to join our team in Oakville, Ontario.
Thurber provides geotechnical, environmental and construction materials engineering and testing services for a variety of industries across Canada. Our multidisciplinary expertise allows us to work on problems related to earth, the environment and construction materials. We solve problems in a wide variety of industries including transportation, building construction, municipal infrastructure, land development, dams and water resources, industrial development, mining, oil and gas, marine and environmental services.
Responsibilities
- Conducting lab testing for various geotechnical projects to produce accurate lab results to be used for design and analysis by Thurber’s engineering team and by outside clients;
- Preparing and setting up soil samples for testing;
- Collecting, reducing, plotting lab results, and preparing lab test reports from test data;
- Conducting testing of soils for their index parameters, including but not limited to: Atterberg Limits; Hydrometers; Sieves; Moisture Contents; Visual Classifications; and, Proctor tests;
- Carrying out various field and laboratory testing on concrete as per CCIL/CSA requirements;
- Logging rock core to determine strength and other engineering properties;
- Performing testing to ASTM/CCIL/CSA, company, and industry standards;
- Maintaining and servicing lab equipment to ensure they operate at an optimal level;
- Arranging for calibration of lab equipment and instrumentation, maintain calibration records; and,
- Effectively communicating lab results and observations to project engineers both verbally and in written formats.
Qualifications and Assets
- Completion of a related post-secondary program in Engineering Technology;
- Completion of a Geotechnical Testing and Instrumentation course is an asset;
- CCIL certification for soils, aggregates, and concrete laboratory testing;
- Instrumentation testing experience;
- Experience working in a lab environment; and,
- Valid Class G Driver’s license is required.
