Overview
Thurber has an exciting opportunity for an Intermediate Geotechnical Engineer to join our team in Edmonton, Alberta.
Thurber is a specialized consulting firm with a focus on geotechnical engineering. Our project work includes transportation, large and small infrastructure, natural hazards, development, and more. We undertake challenging assignments that can include steep terrain, deep foundations, compressible soils, landslides, contamination, or other complications.
As our Intermediate Geotechnical Engineer, you will work on varied projects and develop your skills with guidance and mentorship from our senior team.
Responsibilities
- Providing exemplary service to Thurber’s clients;
- Project management of geotechnical investigation and design assignments including responsibility for schedule, quality, safety, and cost control;
- Coordinate and carry out surface and subsurface site investigations, including borehole logging, sampling of soil and rock, and geological mapping;
- Coordinate and carry out field inspection of construction works and material testing of geotechnical materials;
- Conducting geotechnical analysis and preparing reports;
- Training and mentoring more junior staff;
- Providing construction stage support to clients and contractors;
- Preparing technical and cost proposals; and,
- Supporting and fostering a positive safety culture and environment.
Qualifications and Assets
- Motivated team player with strong technical, business, and interpersonal skills;
- Completion of a Graduate Degree in Civil, Geotechnical, or Geological Engineering;
- A minimum of 5 years of consulting experience, preferably in the Alberta market;
- Knowledge and working experience with applicable regulations, codes, and guidelines;
- Prior experience in consulting engineering or construction is considered an asset;
- A high level of proficiency with current geotechnical software applications;
- Exceptional analytical and project management skills;
- Ability to work independently and cooperate with a team in various environments;
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills;
- Licensed member (P.Eng.) with APEGA; and,
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license is required.
